Register of Merit Dams

1999 Report

The Highest Living ROMDam for 1999 is Ch. Omega's Solitaire. Her sire is AOEGV Am./Can. Sel. Ch. Woodside Nestle Quik v Merwestyn ROM/ROMC HT, TC. Her dam is Can. Ch. Shamasay Galadril Clayfield ROM. This is the first time, as far as Iam able to remember, that a dam has earned her ROMand ascended to the highest living position in the same year. Solitaire is the dam of four champions including AOE 2x Sel. Ch. Jagen's Belle Starr HT, PT, TC, the 1999 Top Winning German Shepherd Dog. She was bred by Clary and Joseph Douwes and Scott Yergin and is owned by Jerome T. Amerman.

There are 17 new ROM Dams for 1999 including a mother/daughter combination-Adorher Gypsy Rose and her daughter, Adorher Starbright. Congratulations to Doris Herbert, the breeder/owner of both these dams, on this accomplishment.

Eleven of our 1999 ROM Dams are linebred Hawkeye or Sundance Kid and the remaining six are heavily influenced by one or the other through their sires, Quik, Banker, Cross Timber's Basic, Hylock's Peacemaker, Gatineau and Cedar Creek's Erin of Lee Ray. With only two exceptions, every progeny contributing to the 1999 ROM Dams is linebred Hawkeye through Sundance Kid, Troll, Gunner, Andretti, Jock, Magnum, Sudden Decision, Stars N' Stripes, Ticketman, Banker, and Prosecutor.

There is also very significant influence from Harrigan/Angelique and Sirocco/Rosemary progeny, especially through Mazarati.

Karagin Crusader contributes through Allways A Lady and Dakota, primarily in west coast breedings. In the east, there is a predominance of Reno, Scorpio, Zeus, Hammer, Magnum, Kane and other Paladen/Lance and Lance/Bernd combinations.

As most of you know, this will be my last report as ROM Chair for Dams. I would like to express my appreciation one last time to Doris Estabrook, ROM Chair for Sires, for her help and kindness over the years. I must also thank my husband, Bob, for his financial support, his many sacrifices and innumerable hardships suffered on behalf of my devotion to the ROM Program. After assisting Connie Beckhardt from 1981 to 1989, I have been the Chair for Dams since 1989. I have tried my very best to treat this program as lovingly as Connie did before me. I am confident that the new Chairs, Cappy Pottle and Gloria Birch will continue this tradition.
