Hip dysplasia research is being conducted at the University of Michigan and VetGen, one of the foremost canine genetic research laboratories. They have a very good record for DNA canine research and DNA test development and are researching the genetic causes of Canine Hip Dysplasia in German Shepherd Dogs, among other breeds. They are seeking the help of dog owners and breeders willing to participate in this research. Once they have located the mutant or deviant gene, and have developed the test, puppies can be swabbed with DNA brushes and the owner which will know which dog is affected, carrier, or clear. VetGen is looking for two affected dogs within a family group and DNA from available unaffected close relatives to the affected dogs. The research is free and totally confidential. Anyone willing to participate can contact Cheryl Hogue at VetGen at 1800 483 8436 or by e-mail at healthydog@VetGen.com
