Breed Standard Seminar with Vicki Bemont and Sharon Dwier Newcomb

Wednesday, October 17th: 1:30-3:00 PM Founders Room (Upstairs)
A presentation of the written Breed Standard. Vicki Bemont is the Education Chair for the GSDCA, and she is a longtime AKC judge with assignments to include several Futurities and Bitches at the 2015 GSDCA National. She has owned and or bred over 100 Champions with wins that include Select, BIS, BISS, and many Group wins. Vicki has trained dogs to the highest levels in Obedience, Herding and Agility. She has also titled dogs in Rally and Schutzhund. For over a decade Vicki has been active in SAR (Search and Rescue) work with law enforcement, training dogs to National Certifications in HRD (Human Remains Detection) Air Scent to include Wilderness and Water. Vicki has been deployed with her dogs on searches locally, nationally and internationally. Sharon Dwier Newcomb, has been over fifty years in dogs as a breeder, owner handler, professional handler, trainer (obedience and one field trial Lab), AKC International Conformation judge of thirty years, licensed for Herding, Non-Sporting and Toy Groups with various other breeds in every group. She has owned: Weimaraner, Min. Poodle, Shetland Sheepdogs, Pom, Peke, German Shepherds, Papillons, Anatolian Shepherd, Pointer, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Chihuahuas. With many BIS wins! She has given seminars for judge’s education on German Shepherds, Papillons, Anatolian Shepherds and Chihuahuas. Sharon has judged in England, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, China, Sweden and Korea. Sharon has also judged the Papillon National Specialty in four countries. She has given lectures on Diet and Vaccines.

Certificates of Attendance will be available to participating Judge Applicants. $15/Member, $25/Non-Member.

Our presenters will evaluate the correct German Shepherd Dog structure according to our written standard.

Scent/Nose Work Games Seminar with Hallie McMullen
Wednesday, October 17th: 3:00-4:00 PM Gateway Hall (Obedience Area)
This seminar is great for everyone! It is an introduction to games that you can play with your dogs and puppies that will be fun and stimulating. The games are great for building relationships and confidence. There will also be games for dogs that already have scent work skills. The seminar will be followed by an opportunity to play the games with your dog or puppy.
Hallie began as a K9 Handler over 20 years ago and later a K9 Team Evaluator and Trainer. She shows in Obedience, Herding, Tracking, Schutzhund, Breed and Nose Work ®, is a Judge for AKC Scent Work and certified as a NACSW Judge.

Obedience Seminar with Kristin Brooks Jones

Kristin Brooks Jones has been training and showing German Shepherd Dogs in AKC Obedience since 2003. She competes in Obedience, Tracking, Agility and IPO. Kristin and Heka (who passed away in July 2018), earned 4 GSDCA Victrix Awards: the 2014, 2016, and 2017 GSDCA Obedience Victrix and the 2017 Agility Victrix, tying the record. At the AKC National All Breed Championship, they finished in the Top 20 the past 2 years. They have even earned an elusive perfect 200 score! Kristin and Heka have earned their OTCH, MACH2 and TDX along with many other titles. Kristin believes that success in any venue begins with a strong relationship between the handler and the dog. In this seminar, Kristin will focus on games that enhance the engagement between dog and handler and that promote better, more precise heeling, fronts and finishes – the foundation of all obedience.
Emergency Medicine Seminar with Michelle (Chelle) Schumann DVM

Dr. Michelle Schumann is a 1990 graduate of the University Of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul, Minnesota. She practiced in Albuquerque New Mexico for 15 years first as an Associate Veterinarian and then served as Medical Director in several related specialty practices in the area. Dr. Schumann’s career has since taken her to the beauty of Montana where she is practicing emergency medicine as well as some general practice medicine for the last 12 years. Dr. Schumann’s love of the German Shepherd Dog began before she was school age as her father was a border patrol agent with a working GSD in southern New Mexico. Since then she has been blessed with “the best dog in the world” many times and they are all remembered with love and a smile. Her current dogs are her service dogs and are a mother/daughter team, Violet and Bee! who are multi-talented with titles in Agility, Herding, Barn Hunt, Tracking, and Dock Diving.
